Password Protected Directories
See how to make a safe and user-only area in your website with password-protected directories.
If you'd like to keep some content concealed from the public eye, you are able to switch on password protection for a given folder - either the main Internet site folder or any other one below it. When this feature is activated, a pop-up shall appear every time someone tries to open the folder in question or clicks on a direct link which goes a few levels deeper, so login info shall be needed for www.domain.com/folder/image.jpg in case you have secured the domain.com folder. In case the details aren't valid, a “403 Forbidden” message will appear and there's no way to get around this restriction, so you can be sure that no one will be able to access the protected content. The option can be helpful in various scenarios - if only a few people should be able to see specific files, if you are building an Internet site and you do not want people to see it prior to it being completed, etc.
Password Protected Directories in Website Hosting
Setting up a password-protected area will take no more than a couple of clicks and a few seconds if you host your sites within a website hosting account with us. You shall not have to do anything challenging - you will need to pick a domain/subdomain, to select which folder under it must be secured, and then to type the login name and password which will be used to access that folder. When a number of individuals require their own login credentials, there won't be a problem to make a variety of different usernames with access to the same folder. All protected folders shall appear with a padlock icon within the File Manager section, so you shall always know where this feature is active. If you wish to deactivate the protection feature for any folder, you can deactivate it from the same exact section of the CP in which you have enabled it.
